Employment: Foreign Labour Favoured Over Locals In South Africa-17/02/2020

Foreign Labour Recruitment Unabated Amidst Widespread Unemployment

At SONA 2020,President Cyril Ramaphosa announced "master plans" to curb the high
unemployment levels in South Africa.Yay! while all this is commendable and applaudible,it means nothing if private sector companies recruit foreign labour instead of exhausting the local labour market first. This boils down to nothing but greed and profits, profits, profits in that the rates of pay for expats are far lower than what you would have to pay South African citizens if they were employed in the same capacity and on the same job sites.

While this is the international norm, other countries utilise their local labour first and then resort to hiring foreign labour if there's a shortfall in filling positions. How are companies able to secure hundreds of work visas for these people from the Dept. of Home Affairs knowing that unemployment is standing at 29%? Only one thing comes to mind: corruption!

Is it because corruption is prevalent in the top levels of government and works it's way down through all tiers of command right to the consultants who actually process the applications for work visas? We will never know will we? unless a full scale investigation is carried out by the minister(s) who's jurisdiction the Dept. of Home Affairs falls under.
At SONA 2020 the president stated that the ministers would be signing performance agreements. This is left to be seen if it changes anything here on the ground.

You would ask why am I blogging about this? I am part of the 29% of unemployed South Africans and we would have been in jobs if there was not one expat working in South Africa. We are tired of being treated like dogs in our own country and us law abiding citizens know crime is not an option to make ends meet.Where do we go from here Mr. president?
Show your leadership and authority by launching a full investigation into this fraud and corruption!

The IFP (Inkatha Freedom Party) stated in a recent article that it wants to limit the number of foreign nationals employed in South Africa. Why is this not the initiative of the ruling party? We voted for you to provide meaningful and tangible economic upliftment in our lives and not not take up space, time and a whole lot of taxpayers' money.
I appeal to the presenters of Morning Live SABC to haul into the studio the people responsible for this travesty and grill them properly for all South Africans to hear what they have to say and what's going to be done about the present situation countless numbers of us find ourselves in.We won't rest till we get definitive answers. The road to economic freedom is a long and hard one but we will continue to tread on until the oppressed are truly free and happy.
